University of Calcutta invites applications for the course of PhD Programme:

 

Eligibility:

  • Candidates (including those working in various projects under departmental faculties but yet to register for PhD) having degree in Bachelor of Technology (subject to provision of 4.4 of PhD regulation) or Engineering (any stream) or Master of Science (any stream without NET/ GATE/ M.Phil.)

Admission process:

  • PhD eligibility test (PET) to be held on 26th September, Thursday, 2013 at 2 pm in the Department of Polymer Science and Technology, 92 A. P. C Road, Kolkata – 700009.Venue of the PET: 2nd year B. Tech class room of the department (in 2nd Floor of Applied Chemistry Building).
  • The PET will be of 50 marks in Multiple Choice Question format of 1 hour duration.
  • The name of the successful candidates will be displayed on 27/ 09/ 2013 at 15 noon on the notice board near the administrative office of the department in ground floor.
  • Successful candidates will have to appear for an interview in the room of the Head of the Department at 12 noon on 30/ 09/ 2012.
  • Candidates having degree in Master of Science with NET/ GATE/ M.Phil. or candidates having degree in Master of Engineering or Technology need not sit for PET and they may directly appear for the interview on 30/ 09/ 2013.
  • Successful candidates (in PET and/ or interview) will be eligible to register for their PhD in the Department of Polymer Science and Technology.

  • Filled up application form (form may be downloaded from the University webpage http://caluniv.ac.in/Phd_Dlit/application_frame.htm) along with Rupees 100/ paid through a challan (obtainable from sales counter of college street campus of the University) may be sent to the Head of the Department, Department of Polymer Science and Technology, UCSTA, University of Calcutta, 92, A. P. C Road, Kolkata- 700009 and it should reach the Department by 25/ 09/ 2013. No TA/ DA shall be paid to the candidates appearing at PET or interview. Research interest and area of works of individual faculties may be seen from departmental website (www.pstunical.org and www.caluniv.ac.in). The reservation of SC/ ST/ OBC etc. will be applicable as per University rules.

How to apply:

  • Candidates willing to pursue research work leading subsequently to the PhD (Sc.) degree in Applied Mathematics, University of Calcutta, should apply in plain paper in the format available in Calcutta University Website to the Head of the Department, after paying Rs. 100/- to the University Cash Counter through a challan available from the University Sales Counter at the C.U. Admission Process:

  • The eligible candidate will have to appear at a written examination to be held in the Department of Applied Mathematics, the details of which are appended below. Successful candidates will have to appear for a viva-voce/counseling. The final selection for joining the PhD Programme of this Department, along with the allocation of supervisor; will be made on the basis of this viva voce/counseling. Those candidates who have already passed UGC-CSIR (JRF) NET/SET/SLET/GATE/Teacher fellowship or equivalent examination or passed M.Phil/M.Tech or equivalent examination need not appear at the written test.   • Selection will be done on the basis of candidates’ performance in the IIMs Common Admission Test (CAT).

  • Interested candidates can download the DL Form and State Bank of India fee deposit challan from IISWBM Website www.iiswbm.edu.
  • Deposit the fee of Rs. 1500 in SBI Power Jyoti a/c no. 32495656710 using the Challan in any branch of State Bank of India. After depositing the fees, candidates should collect the candidates’ copy and IISWBM’s copy of the fee deposit receipt from the bank and send the IISWBM’s copy of the fee deposit receipt along with the completely filled in DL Form to “The Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management, Management House, College Square West, Kolkata – 700 073, India”.
  • Candidates should also e-mail a scanned copy of the duly filled DL Form and a scanned copy of the IISWBM’s copy of the fee deposit receipt at [email protected] for record purpose.
  • Or, candidates can also collect the Application Form from the reception counter of IISWBM by making cash payment of Rs. 1500, fill the form, attach copies of required documents / testimonials and deposit it on or before 6th December 2013.

How to Apply:
Candidates desiring to pursue research work in the Department may apply in the prescribed pro-forma (can be downloaded from the University website) by paying Rs. 100/- through a Challan obtainable from the University Cash Counter by 3rd October 2013.

Admission Procedure:

  • Eligible candidates (having Master’s Degree in relevant subjects) will have to appear in an Entrance Test of 100 marks, to be held in this Department on 8th November 2013, comprising a written examination, followed by an interview.
  • Those candidates who have already passed UGC (JRF) Examinations/ NET/ SET/ SLET or equivalent examinations or passed the M.Phil. or equivalent examination need not appear in the written examination and can directly appear in the interview.

  • The Written Examination of one and a half hour duration shall comprise 5 Questions of 4 marks each, based on a relevant paragraph to assess research aptitude, 15 Multiple Choice Type Questions of 2 marks each, from the core subjects; and 25 marks for a Research Proposal. There will be no negative markings.
  • Questions would be based mainly on the first three papers of the current MA/ M.Sc. Museology syllabus, viz., Organization & Management, Exhibition & Education, and Care & Conservation, though relevant other areas like, Basic Computer Applications, General Knowledge, Current Affairs, Analytical Abilities, etc., may also be covered.
